Forget about Wednesday this week… your boy was sleeping against his will. So today, this morning, in the sun, on the bus, & on the train…
hi there. :)
In university this week, I was reminded that a reflective journal can be really useful as a source in my thesis. I’m not entirely sure how this’ll work… but here’s the current state of my thesis project: it’s going okay, kinda.
At the start of summer, I got a good headstart on what I wanted to do. I’ve probably spoken about it to you a few times already. My studies into Carl Jung, Folklore, & Tarot is all focused on developing techniques to help artists develop more coherent artistic identities, which, in turn, will produce more coherent ‘brands’, that will make marketing a whole lot easier. At least that’s the idea / process I’m looking to test. I’ve been studying up on archetypes in advertising, market segmentation / targeting, & I’ve already created a social media ad campaign to test my new theory against. I’m not the most scientific of folks… but I reckon I’m in a good spot. My only real issue is having too much to read, & not reading it. So much time & energy is being devoted to circus. That’s been such a dramatic shift in these past few weeks.
On that note… yes, I’ve been kicking ass in circus training. I’m begining to choreograph my performance for the 10th of December. With the most amazing corde lisse tutor: Monika, I’m making a crazy amount of progress. Sure, I’ve identified a problem area in my body… but now I’m able to tackle it once & for all. Where I injured myself soooo long ago is still acting up. Not because I’m still injured. Because I’ve developed without that area of muscles. They’re just undeveloped at this stage. So now I’m tackling that!
Additionally, in my spare time training circus, I’ve begun working on a second performance.. with a walking globe! It’s probably one of the most awkward decisions I could have made… this is a massive ball, that barely fits through doors at the best of times. Transporting it is an absolute nightmare… so bringing the ball to a venue for a music show, is NOT a smart thing to do.
Whatever… you’re gonna love it!
Penultimately, as a result of my delay in writing this, I can tell you all about what I got up to yesterday. This short king went to his first vocal training session with the wonderful Eimear, at Vocology Ireland. As a part of receiving Arts Council funding through the Agility award, we’ve been able to begin diving deep into my singing. Primarily I need help with singing through the physical activity with my circus acts… but we’re also diving into the tone, & my overall approach to singing lyrics. I was singing with my nose blocked, with my fingers in my cheeks, & in a bunch of other mad ways. So now I’m all giddy & excited to sing more & more & more… experimenting with what my voice is capable of. I’ll do my best to keep you updated on how this plays out.
Now for my ‘ultimate’ point…
As all this development is taking place, I miss being on stage, in front of cameras, & out there in the world. There’s no denying that I absolutely love to perform, & if anything, it’s what I love most of all. After this circus course ends in December, I do need to get a good grip on my university work, yes… but I also need to begin planning a return to the stage & social media. What that means… is a song release. I’ll need to come back with a bang. So a bang is being made as we speak… & I can’t wait to share it with you.
Have a marvellous Friday. <3
