Looking pretty snazzy, right?
Since the launch of the album, the film, & the live show… we have now entered into Nathan Mac 3.0! That means I’ll be changing some ways I work… for instance, you might have noticed that the rest of the website has been written in the 3rd person. That’s cause I’m getting help with it now. My fantastic business partner Joni Copeland is taking care of a lot more now so I can focus on performing, writing, & recording. In fact, I’ve made a big decision to change up my focus from now on. After the energy & magic in the room on the 2nd, I realise that live performing needs to be my primary focus from now on. This definitely means that social media & marketing is gonna take a bit of a hit… unless I can afford someone to take a lead on it… (which I can’t afford for now)
So what does that mean? What does it mean to let the quality of my instagram slide? Well it means that I’m gonna post simpler things, messier things, & focus more on the BTS of my life, & less on promotion. That means that I’ll need to rely on word of mouth, I’ll need everyone who likes what I do, to share what I do. We’re gearing up for bigger dreams… maybe that means we’re about to blow up.
Now that we’re here, what do we chat about? Since getting back to Ireland it feels like I’ve been recovering from a flashbang. Bright lights & a deafening silence. Slowly though, I’m shaking off the worst of it & getting back on track. What lies in front of me, now that I’m back to work, is a lot of tough work. Sifting through video & audio… editing the ‘Nathan Mac’ promo for booking agents & festival bookers. If I can piece together something really exciting looking, then I might just grab some great shows around the country, & abroad… the more we can perform, the more we will be able to perform. Sounds silly, but I trust you get what I mean. Opportunity begets opportunity. In this same vein, I’ve gotta pick up my rehearsals with the band once again, & build some new kinds of shows. Some that are shorter, some that are bigger & smaller… & possibly one with a tightrope… maybe even my big red ball!
Another avenue of pursuit is the series of music videos that I want to make. Recently I woke with a mind overflowing. Music video concepts, good ones, started jumping into my mind. What I’m trying to create with my music videos is a Solarpunk universe… a sci-fi, circus one. The concepts are all about depicting a future with a utopian twist. A world of nature & technology in a beautiful equilibrium. The stories I’m wanting to tell in these videos are diverse & not always a direct translation or depiction of the song… but they will all include some kind of circus performing, & some kind of creative magic. Creating sci-fi worlds is a little bit more expensive however, so we might be a bit slower in their creation than usual. (unless we can find some investors or a record label to help us out)
This is just some of the work that’s gotta be done. Of course there’s a whole lot more, but there’s no point in long lists. At least not here. That’s not what you’re here for. Now that I’ve mentioned it.. what ARE you here for? I really don’t know why you’re reading this. I’m assuming that you’re curious about what’s going on in my head, or how all of this is possible… maybe you’re an artist trying to make music a career & you’re looking for tips or advice. Or maybe you’re just a big creepy stalker & I should be proper scared that you’ll show up to my house some day. No matter what it is you’re here for, I do hope I’m giving you what you want. (maybe not if you’re the stalker.. you should probably find some help & forget about me… I’m a lot more boring & disappointing in real life…)
Before I go for tonight, lemmie remind you about how I keep a roof over my head, & food in my belly. Most importantly, there’s my Patrons. They send me a couple of euros each month… & all of that combined, becomes something that really makes my life easier. The majority of my income is actually welfare. I am being paid by the state to study Music Business. I am so unbelievably lucky to be able to study (not for free, but practically for free), & be able to work full time on building up my musical income. When I left my job, it was a stupid gamble & I got lucky… I usually get lucky… & I don’t know if I would recommend just quitting & diving in.
IF you REALLY wanna try to make it as an artist of any kind, & you wanna talk money & sustainability… then just reach out to me online. I’m sure I’ll be able to reply to ya & we can see what your options are. Most of what I’ve heard from the professionals that I’ve met is about keeping your day job. Cause most people aren’t a healthy single dude with a big network of friends & family to rely on… with access to state money & a long history of performance.
Okay, I’m rambling now. Time to relax, unwind, & organise some storage space… :P
Oiche maith,
Nathan
